NUDGE FESTIVAL
NUDGE FESTIVAL - BRANDING | CAMPAIGNING | ILLUSTRATION | PACKAGING | COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE
Definition: Nudge is a concept in behavioural science, political theory and behavioural economics which proposes positive reinforcement and indirect suggestions as ways to influence the behaviour and decision making of groups or individuals.
Our idea is to build a festival surrounding this theory - as it is something extremely relevant right now, as we need to act if we want to pause the death of our planet. Creating a festival that ‘nudges’ people in the right direction ever so slightly without them even noticing or going out of their way for - will only positively promote these easy simple steps to change behaviours and make a huge positive impact overall. This would be a revolutionary festival that’ll not only show how festivals can be more sustainable, but how any lifestyle can and should be!
EXAMPLES OF HOW NUDGE WILL TACKLE THE MAIN PROBLEMS AT FESTIVALS:
Food: By only offering tasty vegan and vegetarian food (*PALM FREE - always) we are taking the meat option away but replacing it with fresh yummy goodness that people can easily cook up themselves at home!
Plastic: Only using biodegradable plastic alternatives.
Tents: Using award winning Kartents that’ll be set up instead of regular tents that get left behind and end up in landfill. Kartents can be recycled and turned into something new! We can also print our own designs onto them, which means getting creative, hosting competitions and sponsoring good, down to earth brands!
Transport: Ideally, there would be no parking available at Nudge - this is because we would have a 100% reliable coach system that aims to reduce CO2 emissions.
Entertainment: Each performer, speaker and workshop has been carefully selected to promote, support and inspire a better way of life.

THE LOGO
We have created a stop motion Logo that incorporates our brand ethos; connections, music, positivity and revolution.
The logo has connotations of a human touch, which links back to our whole concept of people making a difference, it’s all about taking action.
It is a versatile logo that can be used in different situations across the entire festival, for example, below we have shown how it could be used on the Instagram for the count down to when it begins. We have created a language for the festival that constantly links to the idea of movement and positive reinforcement, which represents the Nudge theory.
KARTENTS
1 out of 4 people leave their tent behind on the various camp sites worldwide. To get around this huge environmental issue of tents at festivals, we would use the incredible company called Kartent: ‘a temporary festival tent made entirely out of cardboard. The cardboard allows for easy recycling of the tent; after the festival, the tent can go directly to the paper recycling industry so that they can re-use your tent to make toilet paper, books, shoe boxes or other romantic things!
Of course, the tent is resistant to water. We use a high-quality cardboard with long woodfibers. The design of the tent ensures that water and humidity is no problem.’
Because the tents are made from card board, they can be easily printed on. We thought this would be a great opportunity to get people involved at the same time as advertising the festival! So we created a design competition for the chance to win tickets.
ENERGY FLOORS
A lot of energy is produced at festivals… from boogying! So we decided we would collaborate with an amazing company called Energy Floors to capture this energy and use it for good!
‘Energy Floors use human movement as a source of energy. This kinetic energy is directly converted into electricity which powers the floor’s LED lights. Through this process the floor interacts with the public and involves them in an interactive energy experience. The generated electricity can be used to power one of our Energy Plugins, like our digital energy meter, photo application or LED battery.’
THE BOOGIE BOX
The Nudge Theory is all about positive reinforcement and using indirect suggestions as a way of influencing behaviour and decision making. The concept of the festival is based around movement and changing perspectives. Being a decent human being and caring for our home here on Earth doesn’t have to be inconvenient - it can be fun and pretty damn cool.
Take our boogie box for example, we have collaborated with Energy Floors to provide a unique entertainment system that produces energy through movement. Genius!
We propose to build temporary boogie boxes in major cities around England using up-cycled shipping containers to promote the event and publicly display alternatives solutions to producing energy. (We’re hoping huge retailers, companies and festivals will follow us).
The Boogie Box encourages people to dance (good or bad, we won’t judge) This generates electricity with each movement. In return, you can charge your phone or grab a coffee using the electricity you produced whilst in the box. Pretty simple, and links nicely back to the idea of positive reinforcement!
This technology will be used at Nudge festival to power the stages - as the movements increase... the stage gets brighter, ultimately reinforcing the same behaviour which delivers rewards. We want to get people thinking innovatively, how can they change today for a better tomorrow?
The Boogie Box will also have a small office below the dancefloor, where people can find information about Nudge festival, the theory and what they can do today to make a better tomorrow.
